St. Patrick’s Day Decorations

It is so fun to decorate for St. Patrick’s Day. It is like getting ready for spring. You can use all the colors of the rainbow and especially green. Green means spring! Find out how to make some festive decorations for this special holiday!

Make a decorative wreath for the front door. Get several types of green fabric, use different shades of green and different festive patterns. Get a foam wreath, ideally use ones that are three inches thick. Cut fabric into strips 1 inch by 6 inches. Simply tie the strips of fabric around the wreath and tie a double knot. Make a bow out of burlap and attach to the bottom, using thin metal wire.

Fill glass hurricanes with green items. Some ideas for green things are raw lima beans. These beans have a lovely pastel green color when they are raw. Fill the hurricanes half full with lima beans then place a simple, chunky candle in the center.

Create a fun St. Patrick’s Day themed table setting. Incorporate the glass hurricanes.  A great idea is to fill wide glass hurricanes with the green moss balls. These can usually be purchased at florist shops or craft stores. Mix in candies that have a gold metal wrapper. Leave the candles out of containers filled with flammable items!

Use a roll of burlap to run down the center of the table. Find some green fabric or faux moss to place on top of the burlap. Festive table settings are all about layering. Purchase chocolate coins with a metallic wrapper and randomly place them down the runner of the table. Add clean white candles. Tea lights are the perfect size for this kind of table setting. They are similar in size of the coins and will help the coins glitter and shine! Golden wrapped chocolate is the perfect after-meal treat – readily available and sparkling during the entire meal.

Be creative and incorporate green items with decorative metallic coins and other colors of the rainbow, for a fun festive look!

3 Wonderful Ways to Spend Time With Your Teenager Over School Break

So your teenager is on spring break, which means there’s a good chance that you are now in the role of taxi cab driver. It seems like they always have to be somewhere! But this school break is also a wonderful time to spend time with your kiddo outside of the car. It’s easy to let the time fly by while continuing to go about life in the normal pattern. Instead, schedule some special time together. Here are three great ideas about how to do it!

  1. Arrange a fancy night out on the town.  Make reservations at your or your child’s favorite high-end restaurant. Go shopping together ahead of time and buy new outfits to wear on your big night out. If you like, get a mani and a pedi (just for yourself or together) the day before.  Make after dinner plans. Don’t just go home, because you’re both totally fabulous. Buy tickets to something such as a Broadway musical or a concert. Finish the evening by going out to a restaurant again just for a decadent dessert.
  2. Join a fancy health club with an awesome outdoor swimming pool. Choose one that wows you enough to really want to be there on a regular basis. Accomplish your fitness goals by regularly going to the gym together and working out together while you’re there. Exercising with your child is an exceptional way to bond. Then hit the pool for swimming and sun and time to converse and hang out together. As a bonus, find out if guests are allowed, and on days you can’t go together your teen can invite a friend and spend a day at the gym anyway. A health club is a productive and safe place for teens to spend time on their school breaks.
  3. Work together to create a scrapbook of your child’s life. This will likely be an extended length project, and this is a great way to spend a set time together each week. Work on it weekly over the course of the school break with the goal of completing it by the end. This project gives him or her double the reason to cherish the scrapbook. It reflects his or her childhood, but will also be a wonderful memory of having created it with you.
