Choosing a Built-In Refrigerator

Built-In Refrigerators at Arizona Wholesale

Types, Styles, and Look

In the early days of built-in refrigerators there were very few choices. Sub-Zero gets credit for creating this category in the mid-late fifties. It took a while for the category to grow into what it is today. At one point Sub-Zero was synonymous for built-in refrigerator, and even today they are clearly a market leader. However, many other brands now offer a variety of choices in built-in refrigeration. Here are a few:

Bosch, Dacor, Electrolux, Jenn-Air, KitchenAid, Miele, Monogram, and Thermador

Sub-Zero pioneered the traditional built-in refrigerator which, for our purposes, is a refrigerator with a cabinet depth no more than 24″. Early on the brand offered a choice of stainless steel fronts or models that would accept slide-in cabinet panel fronts to match adjacent cabinetry (overlay models).

Eventually, built-in refrigerators were developed that had hidden hinges and accepted cabinet panel fronts that were flush with adjacent cabinets. These refrigerators were fully-flush “integrated” refrigerators.

INTEGRATED APPLIANCES

Today, column refrigerators with cabinet panels have doors that go from bottom to top (no horizontal panel at the top), and when the doors are closed are truly not discernible from the adacent cabinets.

Configurations of built-ins includes side-by-side refrigerator/freezers, bottom freezer refrigrator/freezers, and separate column refrigerators, freezers, and wine coolers. In addition, some brands offer built-in under counter refrigerators and wine coolers; as well as under counter refrigerator and freezer drawers. The configurations for your kitchen are endless.

New Bosch Ovens

See the New Bosch Appliances at Arizona Wholesale Supply

Bosch, as part of BSH, is one of the largest appliance manufacturers in the World. In spite of their size, in the U.S. the Bosch brand is primarily well-known for dishwashers, and also as a leader in induction cooktops. Bosch has not been top-of-mind in other appliance categories including wall ovens – until now. Bosch has completely re-engineered their entire oven line, and the results are truly stunning.

Right away, you'll notice the flush-look, and the sleek styling. Bosch has generally occupied what we call a mass-premium position in the appliance world. Higher than the mass brands such as Whirlpool and Frigidaire. But not as high as the luxury brands such as its sister brand Thermador. Now Bosch appears to be taking a big step away from the mass brand segment of the appliance business and is carving out a nice niche' bumping up close to the luxury brands. Wherever it lands, Bosch has earned a new position of respect for its German engineering sensibilities and sleek styling.

Bosch took a brave and smart step by expanding its oven offering to include side-swing doors as options in single and double ovens, with either left or right swinging doors. Just think of the many benefits of side swing, and the desirability of side swing as a solution for those with accessibility issues.

In addition to the wall oven lineup, Bosch also stepped out in front of their competitors with a Steam-Convection Oven and a Built-In Coffee Machine. Again, these two products have previously been found only in the luxury segment of the industry.

  • Bosch Wall Ovens are Compatible with Most Competitors' Cutouts.
  • To accompany this new line of wall ovens is a new Bosch steam convection oven – the first in its class.

Appliances with overlay cabinet panels

We've blogged about stainless steel appliance finishes, and all the color selections that are available for today's appliances. The one finish we haven't discussed is the overlay cabinet panel application that is so popular in luxury kitchens.

Overlay panels can be used on many refrigerators, dishwashers, wine units, icemakers, warming drawers, and any appliances that are designed to accept a front cabinet panel instead of a factory provided panel.

Cabinets are customarily 24″ deep, but it gets tricky because sometimes that 24″ dimension includes the cabinet front (European cabinets), and in other cases cabinet fronts may extrude 3/4″ or even more.

This can all be important if you want your appliance to be fully flush with adjacent cabinets as in this picture.

To further complicate matters, appliances are often not manufactured in 24″ or shallower depths. When you add a cabinet front to these appliances, the appliance will not fit flush with the adjacent cabinets. So you're going to need to make sure if you want a fully flush installation that you select appliances designed to accommodate a cabinet panel and fit flush.

Here's a recommendation. Work with an appliance supplier that is familiar with appliances designed to accept cabinet panels and can recommend the right products for your specific needs. The professionals at Arizona Wholesale Supply Company are expert in selling these appliances and will help you get just the right appliance at the best possible price. Call or visit them today:

An Integrated Appliance Solution

Do you want your kitchen appliances to stand out or do you want your kitchen appliances to fit-in? It’s a fundamental design option that you need to answer at least in your own mind. Another way of phrasing this is – Do you want to show off your kitchen appliances or would you rather have your kitchen appliances blend in and even hide themselves in your cabinetry?

Some prefer everyone to know and see what they have chosen, and want to display their appliances in all their stainless steel glory. However, fully-integrated flush appliances are an increasingly popular option in upscale kitchens. One of the most common appliances that you’ll find in a fully-integrated application is the dishwasher (See picture below).

A design concept based on an entire kitchen filled with fully integrated and fully-flush appliances can be quite stunning indeed (see below).
