April — The Month For Laughter!

April is the official National Comedy Month and what better way to shake off the cold and dreary winter blues than with a month full of activities and ideas focused on laughter. The holiday was founded in 1976 by author and comedian Larry Wilde, who advocated extensively for how laughter can have therapeutic value, which can improve one’s quality of life.

“Since April is often bleak and grim and taxes are due on the 15th, it can be one of the most stressful times of the year,” says Wilde. ”Besides, it’s the only month that begins with All Fool’s Day – a day which has sanctioned frivolity and pranks ever since the 1500’s.”

So how can you celebrate the month dedicated to laughter and comedy? There are several ways to do so, and not all of them include a comedy club. Start the month off small and get a group of friends and family together for a game night. Play games that foster teamwork and laughter, such as Scattegories or Charades. If you are playing with a more mature crowd break out the Cards Against Humanity and let the fun ensue!

Another night you could bring back some of your favorite classic comedies, be it stand up or movies, and curl up on your couch with some popcorn to revisit old laughs. It might be an old Monty Python movie or it might be your favorite stand up special. You would be surprised how your favorites can go unwatched when life gets busy, but taking time to get reacquainted with them can bring you happiness.

Finally, the most obvious of options for National Comedy Month is to go to a comedy show. There is nothing quite like going with friends and loved ones to a comedy club, sitting back, and enjoying live comedy. If you’ve never been than you truly have never experienced stand up like it should be. What is funny viewed on TV is so much richer and hilarious when you are there in the crowd. If you’ve never been to a live stand up show, this is the perfect month to try it out for the first time!

However you celebrate, try to take some time this month to enjoy happiness and laughter. It will brighten your spring and your life as well.

A Warm Wish

Happy holidays!  Our wish is that your holiday will be filled with warm memories, family time and wonderful meals with one another!

How To Remove BBQ Sauce From Carpet

We hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend that was full of celebrating independence, fireworks and barbequing!  We thought we’d share some helpful hints on how to remove barbeque sauce from carpet, just in case some was spilled on your floor!  We hope this was not the case, but if so, we hope you find this information useful.

Solvent – A non-flammable spot removal solution, or dry cleaning type solvent, is preferred. Exercise caution when using a solvent. Never pour it directly onto the carpet or allow it to reach the backing, because it can damage the latex that holds the primary and secondary backings together. Acceptable solvents include Carbona®, Energine®, K2R®, Goof-Off®, etc.

Detergent Solution – Mix one fourth (1/4) teaspoon of a liquid dishwashing detergent per one (1) cup of lukewarm water. NEVER USE A STRONGER CONCENTRATION! Thorough rinsing is necessary to remove detergent residues that may cause rapid soiling. It may be necessary to rinse with warm water several times to completely remove residues. (See Residue Precautions.) Care should be used in selecting a detergent. Never use a laundry detergent of any type, because laundry detergents may contain optical brighteners (fluorescent dyes) that dye the fiber. Do not select an automatic dishwashing detergent because many contain bleaching agents that destroy dyes and some fibers.

Vinegar Solution – Mix one (1) cup of white vinegar per two (2) cups of water. White vinegar is a 5% acetic acid solution. It is used most often to lower the alkalinity caused by detergent solutions or alkaline spills.

Warm Water – Lukewarm tap water should be used in most cases to rinse the cleaning solutions from the fiber. Failure to completely rinse the solutions from the fiber may cause accelerated soiling.

Ammonia Solution – Mix one (1) tablespoon of household ammonia per cup of water. Please note: Be aware that ammonia, if used improperly, can cause a color change. Be sure to test a hidden area.

Call a Professional – Professional cleaners have the ability and the equipment to use more aggressive cleaning solutions to remove stubborn spills. Always consider consulting a professional cleaner regarding any spot removal question. CRI – 1-800-882-8846.
