Cooking Modules

Benefits of Cooking Modules

Best Selection at Arizona Wholesale

Jenn-Air, Wolf, and Gaggenau

Cooking modules are individual drop-in countertop units that may be installed and used as single purpose units, or combined with other modules to provide a more complete meal preparation solution. The big advantage is that modules can be installed anywhere that gas or electric service can be provided, and the mix and match approach gives homeowners the option of having their own custom configuration. For example, a power gas module with wok ring could be installed adjacent to an oversized chrome-infused electric griddle, which might be next to a two burner gas module. Here's an example from Jenn-Air below:

If you want to add indoor grilling, the configuration below from Wolf offers a wok module, next to a grill module, next to a 4 burner Wolf gas cooktop.

Finally, luxury European brand Gaggenau offers an in-counter steamer as part its collection of modular cooking elements.

Both Jenn-Air and Gaggenau also have flush downdraft vent options to remove steam and smoke at the source. Wolf has a retractable rear downdraft vent which may work depending on the width of your modules. Of course, overhead venting may be used with all brands. Preparing to Buy Appliances

Learn to be a Smart Appliance Customer

When was the last time you bought a new car? I'm guessing that you did your homework before heading to the car dealerships to put up tens of thousands of dollars on a new vehicle. It makes sense then to also spend some time preparing to spend thousands of dollars on new appliances for your home. Here are some general tips before you head out the door.

Have a flexible and realistic appliance budget.

Think about your budget. A basic appliance package by one of the big 3 (GE, Whirlpool, Frigidaire) including a range, mico-hood, refrigerator, and dishwasher will cost a minimum of $3500-$5000. At the other extreme, luxury homes valued well into 7 or even 8 figures are going to need luxury appliances. Considering that a single built-in refrigerator will commonly cost over $10,000, and that's just one appliance, a full-fledged luxury kitchen can easily run into several tens of thousands.

Consider your lifestyle

coffee-maker

Built-In Coffee Maker

Consider extras such as Built-in Coffee-Makers, Wine or Beverage Coolers, Icemakers, or Steam-Convection Ovens. These will run up the bill, but for some people they are worth the extra, and they'll definitely make a statement.

Appliances should enhance your home value, up to a point.

One of the biggest concerns, in my view, is to choose appliances that “belong” in the house. If you live in an average middle class subdivision, be careful in buying luxury appliances because you are unlikely to recover the value when you sell your home. There are some exceptions if the neighborhood is changing character, or if for example you are a dedicated chef who can justify a commercial grade range without regard to resale value.

Luxury-Kitchen

Luxury Kitchen

Similarly, if you are in an area of custom homes, perhaps in a gated country club community, be prepared to commit to high end luxury appliances. Nothing can reduce a luxury home's value more than using standard finishes and brands where custom or luxury brands are expected.

These are just a few tips to get you thinking. A good place to go from here is to discuss these principles with your builder or designer. Of course, for the best selection of appliances of all the top brands as well as specialty brands, be sure to consult the experts at Arizona Wholesale Supply.

Trends in Professional Style Appliances

Pro-Style Ranges in Standard Kitchens

Professional style ranges have been showing up in standard kitchens for several years now. Certainly, we’ve seen brands such as GE Café give a “pro” look to standard appliances with great success. But more than that, consumers are willing to jump ship when it comes to their standard range, opting for one of the high-end professional style brands for the added cooking power as well as the pro-look. Buyers seem to be not at all concerned with having matching appliances either by brand or style, and they don’t hesitate sticking a bulky pro-style range in with any overall kitchen style. In addition, they’re often unconcerned that the pro-style range will cost more than all of the rest of their standard appliances combined.

Builders, contractors, designers, and remodelers can be challenged with a non-standard depth, special ventilation needs, and other custom changes that might be required. Nevertheless, these pro-style non-standard ranges are in enough demand that the industry is adapting to buyers requests.

The good news is that trade professionals, can rely on Arizona Wholesale Supply to guide them through the maze of pro-range choices. Here are two examples of luxury brands that specialize in ranges with a professional look and features.

Thermador-Range

Thermador’s new Pro Harmony 30″ range above is touted as the only 5-burner 30″ Pro-Style range in the luxury category. This range is likely to cost $4000 – $5000 when it debuts later this year.

Italian manufacturer Bertazzoni below is making a mark with their 30″ Pro-Style range that retails for as low as $2599. That’s a very competitive price for a range in this category. Bertazzoni is also known for offering their ranges in a choice of brilliant colors in addition to the common stainless steel finish.

Designers, builders, contractors, and remodelers wishing to explore opportunities in the pro-style range category are welcome to consult with the professionals at Arizona Wholesale Supply for more detailed information.

Jenn-Air Takes it up a Notch in 2014

New Jenn-Air Appliances and New Luxury Showroom

In 2009, Jenn-Air launched a new lineup of appliances anchored by the world's only wall oven with a culinary center. Today, the Jenn-Air wall oven is still an industry exclusive, but it's time to investigate what's new with Jenn-Air 5 years later.

The luxury appliance industry has changed in the last 5 years and Jenn-Air has changed with it. Most recently, Jenn-Air has added a steam convection oven, and a built-in coffee machine.

Famous for cooktops, Jenn-Air is upgrading the line for 2014 with new gas cooktops featuring new styling, super low 800 btu burners, powerful 18,000 btu burners, a low profile design, and elegant, durable brass burners. Here are the specs on the new 36″ – 6 burner model.

The Next Innovation In Cooking from Miele

As the pioneer in steam oven technology, Miele has perfected the art of steam cooking. Building on that expertise, the introduction of Miele’s Combi-Steam oven promises gourmet results — whether using steam, convection or a combination.

When choosing combination cooking, steam and convection work together to transfer heat more efficiently, proving ideal for locking in the moisture of meats or cakes, yet browning the exterior of items such as poultry to perfection. The result? Excellent quality with flawless taste.

MasterChef Gourmet Programs

For a lasting impression at your next dinner party, automatic programs for Turkey, Chicken, Salmon, Beef Tenderloin and Baby Back Ribs use slow cooking methods by combining lower temperatures and longer cooking times for the most tender and juicy results with a richly browned crust.

Lift-Up Control Panel:

With the simple touch of a button, the control panel automatically lifts up, allowing for easy access to the dishwasher-safe water and condensate containers. Then a quick and safe return of the control panel re-integrates your oven into the seamless design of your kitchen.

If you like to entertain, the extra large capacity of Miele’s Combi-Steam oven allows for more flexibility and larger dishes. As compared with Miele’s steam oven, the Combi-Steam oven capacity boasts a 40% increase in space, made possible by the location of the water and condensate container behind the lift-up control panel.

Choosing Appliance Brands

Which Appliance Brand is Best for You?

The Importance of Brand Positioning

When shopping for appliances it's important to select the appliance brand that best fits your needs. Buyers must know how the brands they are considering are “positioned” in the marketplace. Positioning was introduced by marketing gurus Jack Trout and Al Ries. They defined positioning as the niche that a brand occupies in the mind of the consumer.

For example, consider the name Wal-Mart. What comes to mind? Most consumers would say, “Low Price”. Consider the name, Nordstrom. Consumers might say, “Luxury”. Similarly, individual appliance brands occupy a specific niche in buyers minds. Appliance brands not only develop their marketing plan around their brand positioning, but the features, the prices, and even the retailers that they choose to carry their brands are representative of their brand positioning. Understanding where an appliance brand is positioned can help you to get the best fit for your specific circumstances.

For example, suppose you have just purchased a luxury home in an exclusive country club. You wouldn't want an appliance brand designed for entry-level buyers. Similarly, for a family just starting out with a small home in modest neighborhood, appliances geared toward large custom homes wouldn't make sense.

Here's how various appliance brands are positioned.

Value Brands

Amana is a value brand. As such, the Amana brand is priced low and has limited features and model selection. It's a good choice for budget-minded consumers. Other brands that fit this niche would include Hotpoint and to some extent Frigidaire.

Mass Brands

Mass brands are brands that cover the broad spectrum of consumer needs in the middle of the market. They cover a wide range of price points and features and are the choice of the largest group of buyers. Mass brands include Whirlpool, Maytag, and Frigidaire.

Premium Brands

Premium brands often overlap with the mass brands, but go on to occupy a niche of their own where the mass brands don't participate. Brands such as KitchenAid, Bosch, and Samsung fit into the premium niche.

Super Premium Brands

A new niche for appliance brands has developed in recent years as the Luxury appliance market has expanded. This category is often described as Super Premium. Super premium brands are on the brand spectrum below luxury brands and are generally less exclusive, yet they have many features and characteristics of the luxury brands. These brands would include Jenn-Air, Dacor, Electrolux, and Thermador.

Luxury Brands

In the luxury category, consumers would select from Sub Zero/Wolf, Gaggenau, Miele, and Viking. These products are positioned for the custom home market, and are featured and priced accordingly.

There are no rules to define the various categories and some brands straddle categories. Viking, for example has extended its brand downward into the super premium niche with freestanding refrigerators, and over-the-range microwaves.

It's best to consult a professional to make sure that your brand preferences are aligned with your home and your lifestyle. The experts at Arizona Wholesale Supply Company are familiar with all the brand profiles and can guide you through this process.
