Tips for Selecting Appliances

Appliance Help for New Homebuyers

Arizona Wholesale Supply is Arizona's Leading Builder Distributor

Appliance-Package

New homebuyers have to make a lot of choices when selecting all the finishes, and products that go into their dream home. Fortunately, production home builders preselect options and upgrades that are suitable for their homes. Even so, making appliance selections can be very challenging. Here are a few tips in choosing appliances:

  1. Narrow the field. If your builder has a list of models and packages that are available to you, part of your work is already done. Don't waste time looking at brands or models that aren't available for the home you are purchasing. Even If you are building a custom home, there will still be some constraints based on the size of your kitchen, location of gas, water, and electric lines, etc.

  2. Budget and plan accordingly. If it's been a number of years since you purchased major appliances, get prepared for some sticker shock. Today's appliances will save money on energy usage, and still are a very good buy when factoring inflation over the years. However, when you want a built-in refrigerator, combo ovens, and other premium appliances such as wine storage units, built-in warming drawers, steam ovens and coffee makers, you're going well into 5 figures ($XX,XXX.XX).

  3. Consider brands. At Arizona Wholesale Supply, we carry the popular priced major production brands GE, Whirlpool, and Frigidaire (Electrolux). We also are your supplier for upscale brands, such as GE Profile, Electrolux, KitchenAid, and Bosch, as well as a host of luxury brands such as Jenn-Air, Monogram, Viking, SubZero-Wolf, Thermador, Miele and many more. Most production home builders offer selections from only a single brand or two, and even semi-custom builders usually stick with a few preferred brands. For that matter, new home buyers tend to pick most or all their appliances from a single brand that they prefer. It not only narrows choices to products that the buyer is going to be comfortable with, appliance brands tend to have matching handles, knobs, etc.

  4. Work with a professional. Arizona Wholesale Supply consultants have many years experience with home builders, designers, and new home buyers. If your builder or design professional is one of the many that we supply, you can make an appointment at one of our locations to select your appliances.

Arizona Wholesale Supply is a family owned company, based right here in Arizona, and we've been at this for over 70 years.

KitchenAid’s New Look

Coming Soon – New KitchenAid Appliances

KitchenAid-Kitchen

Credit: Reviewed.com/KeithBarry

The new KitchenAid major appliance line has been previewed to much acclaim and should be rolling out very soon. The last major update to KitchenAid styling was the Architect Series introduced a decade ago. It was a huge undertaking. KitchenAid elected to introduce the entire Architect II line of products simultaneously, rather than one category at a time. With multiple factories involved, having a common launch time for cooking, refrigeration, dishwashers, etc. introduced dozens of timing hurdles to overcome. Nevertheless, the launch was well-planned and went remarkably smooth. We’re expecting the same outcome from KitchenAid with today’s new line.

KitchenAid-Handle

Credit: Reviewed.com/KeithBarry

The new 2015 Kitchenaid was first previewed at the EuroCucina Show in Milan last spring, so it’s been a work in progress for some time. Elegant and stylish, the new line is forward-looking, but at the same time it still harkens back to KitchenAid’s roots. In fact, the iconic roundels capping the handles are tooled with words “KitchenAid 1919“, the year that KitchenAid was founded. Shown here in the iconic KitchenAid red, the end caps will also be available in other colors. The handles themselves are re-designed with a tubular style and an etched grip, both a non-slip convenience, and a classic professional look.

At the same time that KitchenAid is launching their new look, they’re adding a new finish – Black Stainless Steel. While this is something you’re going to want to see for yourself, it’s subtle and stunning at the same time. It’s Stainless Steel no doubt, yet assuredly Black as well. Of course, KitchenAid will also offer the line in standard Stainless Steel, Black, and White.

For all the details about the new KitchenAid call or visit the sales professionals at Arizona Wholesale Supply.

Trends in Professional Style Appliances

Pro-Style Ranges in Standard Kitchens

Professional style ranges have been showing up in standard kitchens for several years now. Certainly, we’ve seen brands such as GE Café give a “pro” look to standard appliances with great success. But more than that, consumers are willing to jump ship when it comes to their standard range, opting for one of the high-end professional style brands for the added cooking power as well as the pro-look. Buyers seem to be not at all concerned with having matching appliances either by brand or style, and they don’t hesitate sticking a bulky pro-style range in with any overall kitchen style. In addition, they’re often unconcerned that the pro-style range will cost more than all of the rest of their standard appliances combined.

Builders, contractors, designers, and remodelers can be challenged with a non-standard depth, special ventilation needs, and other custom changes that might be required. Nevertheless, these pro-style non-standard ranges are in enough demand that the industry is adapting to buyers requests.

The good news is that trade professionals, can rely on Arizona Wholesale Supply to guide them through the maze of pro-range choices. Here are two examples of luxury brands that specialize in ranges with a professional look and features.

Thermador-Range

Thermador’s new Pro Harmony 30″ range above is touted as the only 5-burner 30″ Pro-Style range in the luxury category. This range is likely to cost $4000 – $5000 when it debuts later this year.

Italian manufacturer Bertazzoni below is making a mark with their 30″ Pro-Style range that retails for as low as $2599. That’s a very competitive price for a range in this category. Bertazzoni is also known for offering their ranges in a choice of brilliant colors in addition to the common stainless steel finish.

Designers, builders, contractors, and remodelers wishing to explore opportunities in the pro-style range category are welcome to consult with the professionals at Arizona Wholesale Supply for more detailed information.

Professional Appliance Sales and Low Prices Too

Sales associate training at Arizona Wholesale Supply Co.

Customers deserve knowledgable sales associates

Appliance Training

Appliance Training Meeting

Training is one of the key differences in working with professional sales associates such as those at Arizona Wholesale Supply Company, and the big box stores or traditional appliance retailers.

When you're selling everything from entry level appliances for production homes to $10,000 (or more) built-in refrigerators for luxury custom kitchen remodels, you need to know your products. What's more, there is a steady flow of new products with new features being introduced regularly. So sales associates are constantly having to learn about new products and features.

At Arizona Wholesale Supply Company training is not just a one time thing, but an all the time thing. Sometimes training takes place right in the showrooms in Phoenix, Tucson, and Scottsdale. Sometimes training takes place at some of the regional appliance brand offices in the Phoenix metro area. And sometimes, Arizona Wholesale Supply sales associates travel to manufacturer facilities in remote locations in California, Mississippi, Wisconsin, or Illinois.

Below: Arizona Wholesale Supply sales associates attend Jenn-Air training at the W-O-W (World of Whirlpool) center in Chicago, Illinois. Training includes learning to cook with Jenn-Air appliances. Of course, there is time set aside to enjoy a glass of wine on the spectacular outdoor deck in downtown Chicago.

Pam Davis and Cassie Bertella – Az. Wholesale Scottsdale, relax after a long training day at the W-O-W (World of Whirlpool) in Chicago.

Regardless of where this product education occurs, you can count on your sales associate at Arizona Wholesale Supply to be among the most experienced and best trained appliance experts in Arizona.

Do Today’s Appliances Wear Out Sooner?

Appliances of old lasted longer than appliances today.

True or False?

True. The useful life of an appliance today is not what it once was. The same is true with the clothes we wear, the automobiles we buy, and the homes we build.

Twenty years ago, the Maytag repairman was known as “Old Lonely” and hyped as the loneliest man in town. Maytag salespeople bragged about a transmission that was said to last for 25 years, far longer than the average life of a washing machine.

While Maytag brand still touts its durability and commercial parts, they no longer refer to the Maytag repairman as “Old Lonely” and the factory where those legendary machines were made was closed soon after Whirlpool purchased Maytag in 2006.

Ironically, this is actually good news for consumers. There is little to be gained from paying for a product that is over engineered. It makes no sense to pay for a 25 year transmission in a washer that lasts 12 years on average. We replace appliances now, that we once used to repair. We do so:

  • in order to get the new latest and greatest new features.
  • to avoid today's high cost of repair.
  • to take advantage of greater energy savings in newer appliances.

Life expectancy aside, today's appliances perform better, use less energy, offer more features, and cost less as a percentage of our total income, than ever before. So rather than bemoaning the fact that these products have a replacement cycle and won't be passed down to our children, we should consider what great values they are.

To get the best value on appliances consumers should:

  1. Get professional advice. A trained appliance salesperson is worth his or her weight in gold. Buying from a home improvement store or a club where you get either bad advice or no advice will probably mean that you'll pay to much. Spending hundreds of dollars for a product that doesn't meet your expectations means you paid too much even if the price was low.
  2. Buy from a trusted source. Choosing a local company that has been in business for a while, and specializes in appliances is a good idea. You'll get a good value from somebody who has a reputation of standing behind their products.

In Arizona, a good choice would be Arizona Wholesale Supply Company. They've been in business for over half a century, are locally owned, have a highly skilled sales force, and have their own delivery and service. They have three convenient locations in Arizona. Call or visit today:
