FLOORTÉ™: Luxury Vinyl Flooring Collection from Shaw

At Shaw, luxury vinyl flooring—which we often call resilient—is our forte. So we’re calling our latest collection Floorte™.

Floorte™ is a vinyl laminate made using high-definition printing to emulate a hardwood or tile surface. Shaw's engineered FOLD N GO™ locking system makes installation easy. Floorté™ floors are not only strong and durable, but their flexible design helps conceal imperfections in the floor beneath. The high-definition printing creates a highly authentic appearance, and the hardwood designs are created to match the top species and colors of hardwood.

“You can get the wood look without the high-maintenance, a product that hides imperfections in subfloors, and an easy click system,” says Natalie Cady, director of hard surface marketing. “The fact that it’s waterproof is just icing on the cake.”

Laminate Coreboard Technology

An Eco-Friendly Alternative

Known for being committed to the environment, Shaw Floors laminate options are an ideal choice for all of us who are environmentally conscious. Shaw laminates have a long life span. Replacement is something you won't even think about for many years to come.

Why Choose Laminate?

Since laminate is made to look like and even feel like hardwood, maybe you're wondering why you shouldn't just buy hardwood? Shaw floors has a great selection of hardwood floors. But, here are some reasons you may want laminate:

  1. As always, price may be a consideration. Laminate can be half the price of hardwoods. And the easier, quicker installation, can save you money, also.

  2. Even though hardwood is a “natural” product, laminate is much more durable than hardwood. It's not nearly as likely to scratch or split. It's much more resist moisture damage, and maintenance is a breeze. There's less wear and tear, and it's very resistant to spills and stains.

  3. Laminate is also versatile. Various wood grains, colors, tints and patterns are limited only by consumer demand.

Flooring Provides Natural Transitions

When dealing with today’s more open architecture, it can be difficult to define the transition from one functional area to another. Flooring provides you with a straightforward way to separate rooms in a home without damaging sight lines or reducing the feeling of space.

This entryway demonstrates one way flooring can create a distinct functional space. The smaller tiles in the center surrounded by larger tiles and then a pre-designed border – called a listello – create the sense of an area rug without the tripping hazard that is not needed by a doorway.

With this flooring choice, the foyer is clearly defined. And by choosing to extend the design into the living space, it creates a sense that the entryway is larger than the architectural indentation provided for it. The listello also provides the perfect transition line to the larger tiles that are a better look in the expansive living area.

In the image to the right, the same choice of listello supports the transition from straight to diagonal tiles. Once again the change in flooring helps to define the different rooms. The hallway feels wider thanks to the diagonal tiles and the listello provides a natural border for this connection while providing a design link back to the foyer flooring.

The contemporary style of this home matches the abstract design of the listelle, but there are borders to coordinate with any home style. Listellos can be selected to fit flooring materials and colors as well as style. We invite you to browse our selection of tile flooring and listellos on display at Arizona Wholesale. We like to think we have just the right choices to make your open-style home flooring transitions effective and appealing.

Medallions Add Old-World Charm

In ancient Rome, mosaics of stone provided a permanent piece of art in the homes of the wealthier families. Today, we can place this old-world element in our homes without having to hire our own artist in stone thanks to the wealth of dramatic designs commercially available.

Medallions and other mosaics make a statement in a home. You can place them in a foyer to add a unique style to your home’s entrance, or where several hallways meet to add a special touch of interest as people move from one room to another. Medallions can also emphasize an architectural detail. For example, the circular mosaic in the picture above echoes the shape of the space while adding color and pattern the way a rug would without creating a tripping hazard in a well-travelled area.

Design options such as medallions come in all styles and materials. Good installers can position them seamlessly in a stone floor. Other than sealing any grout lines, maintenance is the same as for any stone surface.

As you can see from the image to the right, you can place furniture on a medallion, allowing the piece to serve as a decorative foundation for a table or other furnishings. In this case the medallion matches the shape of the table’s base, helping both pieces integrate into the foyer.

Homeowners have been adding design to their homes through this type of art for centuries. Even though we aren’t in Rome, consider doing as the Romans did and add a special feature to your floors, walls or anywhere you are adding stone.  Maybe your selection will enchant archeologists of the future as well as visitors today.
