Window Coverings: Vertical vs Horizontal Blinds

If you’re working on upping your understanding various window treatment options for use in your home you’ll love this quick glance guide. This is a great starting point for people who aren’t savvy about window treatments but want to be able to have an educated conversation about window treatments. You will likely spend a fair amount of time reviewing options for horizontal or vertical blinds because they are exceptionally versatile, functional, and affordable. Here’s what you need to know in order to get the most out of your choice. Not only will it make you better versed, it will also allow you to elaborate on more detailed aspects because you won’t have to spend as much time educating yourself on the basics.

Vertical Blinds

  • Referred to as vanes, rather than slats, when speaking of the construction. Vertical blinds function by traversing and rotating on a track.
  • An excellent way to maintain privacy.
  • Offer UV protection for interior furnishings and finishes.
  • Available in a wide range of prices.
  • Offer a wide range of finishes and textures. For instance, vinyl and fabric.
  • Ideal for windows that slide horizontally, and sliding patio doors.
  • Can be used in both modern and traditional design schemes by way of the absence or inclusion of draperies.
  • Can be installed with right, left, or split stacking configurations.

Horizontal Blinds

  • Referred to as slats when speaking of the construction, horizontal blinds function by tilting up or down across a 180 degree arc. The tilting offers detailed and specific light control, which reduces glare without sacrificing natural light in the room.
  • Available in an array of colors, finishes, and materials.
  • Offered in hard wood, faux wood, and aluminum. This provides enough versatility to incorporate them seamlessly into any interior design scheme.
  • Can be manufactured to fit nearly any size and shape of window. They are especially well suited to tall, narrow window frames.
  • Work very well with top treatments or as under treatments for drapes.
  • Can be installed with either an inside or outside mount, depending on the construction of the window.
  • Offer UV protection for interior furnishings and finishes.

IBS and KBIS 2015, Design and Construction Week

A Change is Gonna Come

2015 is going to be a year of great change and growth

A Change is Gonna Come is a famous song by Sam Cooke, and when it comes to appliances, flooring, and more, Arizona Wholesale Supply is definitely going to be singing about changing and growing in 2015.

Let’s start with the new products being shown during the 2015 Design and Construction Week in Las Vegas Jan 21-23. For the first time, five separate industry shows will all be exhibiting in Las Vegas at the same time. It’s going to be a BIG show!

Design and Construction Week

  • IBS – International Builders’ Show
  • KBIS – Kitchen and Bath Industry Show
  • Surfaces – The International Surface Event
  • International Window Coverings Expo
  • Las Vegas Market – home décor, furnishings, accessories, and gifts

Exhibitors will be showing their new products and designs at three separate venues in Las Vegas. So, there are going to be thousands of people moving to and from show locations. We’ll see manufacturers demonstrating new, innovative products, and we’re also sure to see more “connected” home products than ever before.

We’ll be able to operate smart appliances by smart phone or tablet. In turn, your appliances will also be able to communicate with you, warning you when a refrigerator door is left open, notifying your when your oven has finished pre-heating, or when it’s time to replace a refrigerator water filter. And that’s just the beginning.

Check this blog and our facebook and twitter pages often from Jan. 21 – Jan. 23, for live bulletins from Design and Construction Week.

The really big news in the appliance industry was actually announced in 2014 when Electrolux announced it was acquiring GE’s Appliance division. Now, in 2015 we’ll get to see some changes as Electrolux takes control of GE appliances, and along the way may become the largest appliance company in the World. More to come…for sure. As Sam Cooke wrote: A Change is Gonna Come.
